Launching a coin
What a POC launch is
A POC coin is a normal pump.fun coin. The difference is who makes the first buy: POC's launch vault, a program, buys a stake of the supply with your SOL in the same instruction that creates the coin, and keeps it as collateral for call options. The vault is also the coin's pump.fun creator, so creator fees accrue to the vault; the surplus is paid to you as the beneficiary.
Steps
- Enter a name (up to 32 characters), a ticker (up to 10 letters or digits), an optional description, X link and website, and an image (PNG, JPG, GIF or WebP, under 2 MB).
- Choose the stake on the slider, from 5% to 10% of supply.
- Optionally enter a dev buy: a share of supply (0% to 10%) your own wallet buys straight after the stake. It buys that exact number of tokens (2% = 20M), and the page shows its estimated SOL cost.
- Press Launch. The image and metadata are uploaded to pump.fun's IPFS (the same storage pump.fun's own coins use). Your wallet signs the setup first (the backer pool record, the coin's lookup table and filling it), then three more: the launch itself, opening calls, and the dev buy. The launch is sent first and checked before it goes out; the opening of calls and your dev buy follow right behind it, usually within a second or two. If the launch is refused, nothing is launched and you can start again; the setup steps are reused.
- You land on the coin's page, with calls already on sale.
The coin's mint address is made in your browser and its key never leaves the page. POC can also
reserve a mint address (for example a vanity ...pump address) for its own launches; only
POC's wallet sees and can use it.
Launching from key files: a separate stake wallet
scripts/solana/launch-poc.ts (in the programs repo) runs the same launch from key files on
your own machine; the keys never leave it:
- A separate wallet pays the stake. It signs the launch and pays for the vault's first buy, but it never holds the tokens: the stake goes to the vault's address, which has no private key.
- A dev wallet can buy right after. Its buy is its own transaction straight after the launch
(the launch alone uses nearly all of Solana's per-transaction invocation limit). The launch is
sent first and checked before it goes out; opening calls and the dev buy follow right behind it.
USE_JITO=1sends the three as one Jito bundle instead. - Your own mint address, for example a vanity
...pumpaddress, can be used. DRY_RUN=1builds everything and simulates the first step without sending.
The stake price shown includes 10% slack for price movement; unused SOL is returned.
The stake slider: tradeoffs
| 5% stake | 10% stake | |
|---|---|---|
| Tokens staked | 50M | 100M |
| You pay (mainnet curve) | about 1.48 SOL | about 3.11 SOL |
| Calls the vault can sell per 24 h | 49.7M tokens | 99.3M tokens |
| Premium if all sold at the $200K strike | about $1,380 | about $2,760 |
| First public buyer pays, vs the opening price | 1.10x | 1.22x |
| Stake worth at the graduation price | 20.5 SOL | 41.1 SOL |
A bigger stake gets: more calls on sale (the per-wallet limit of 2M tokens means 25 wallets at a 5% stake, 50 at 10%), all still covered by staked tokens; more premium for the vault and more SOL when calls are exercised at $200K and up; more supply locked away.
It costs: more SOL up front; a higher starting price for the public and fewer tokens left on the curve; more tokens delivered, and usually sold, when calls pay out on a rally.
What happens next
- On the curve: the coin trades on pump.fun's curve, and calls are already on sale (hourly from a $100K strike, daily from $200K), covered by the stake.
- Graduation: when about 85 SOL has been raised the coin migrates to its PumpSwap pool.
- Activation: a few minutes later, once pump.fun's post-migration boost has been spent (or 30 minutes after activation is first attempted), the vault switches to pool prices and can also buy cover and the premium's token share on the pool.
- If the curve stalls: after 72 hours without graduating, the stake is sold back to recover your cost and the rest is burned.
- Later: stake left after 7 days with no call sales is burned.
The stake cannot be withdrawn by anyone, including you or POC.
